Creeks and Rivers
In 2018, Maya started placing wildlife cameras in remote stream and river corridors within post-fire forests located in private and public forests in California. Her camera efforts continue today. Photos and footage from her cameras continue to document astounding findings: black bears, mountain lions, foxes (including the Sierra Nevada red fox), fishers, martens, and other wildlife species - all using post-fire forests.
In 2021, Maya conducted extensive surveys within the perimeter of the Glass Fire, to determine Best Management Practices (BMPs) for protecting riparian corridors, streams and sensitive wildlife. Part of her work was to recommend measures for the protection of water resources and implementation of water quality management approaches.
